Environment & Sustainability Committee

The Green Cat Challenge Award 2022

Annually, the Environment and Sustainability Committee at Texas State University recognizes the individuals and organizations that are actively involved in sustainability efforts on campus and in the San Marcos community.

There are four Green Cat Challenge award categories: individual student, student organization, individual faculty or staff, faculty or staff department/organization/unit.

There are three selection criteria, which applicants will address via short-answer survey questions:

  •     What is your (or your group’s) contribution to sustainability on campus?
  •     How are your efforts related to the “three pillars” of sustainability (environment, economics, and social)?
  •     What is the impact of your work on Texas State University or the wider community?

The application for the 2022 Green Cat Challenge Award opens on February 14, and the deadline to apply is March 31. Winners will be notified by April 15 and the Green Cat Challenge Awards will be awarded at the campus Earth Day Festival on April 23.

Function:

Works to increase communication and create synergy around environmental and sustainability efforts of administrators, staff, faculty, and students by monitoring, coordinating and communicating with departments and relevant committees and student organizations. Its goals are to promote and publicize best practices, increase sustainability across the university, and strengthen Texas State's stewardship of our environment. The committee meets twice monthly during long semesters.

The Environment and Sustainability Committee's annual Green Cat Challenge Awards honor and recognize the importance of the environment and best sustainable practices as an important university goal. The 2021 winners were announced during a Zoom meeting on May 4, 2021
