Winner - College of Science & Engineering

Science and Engineering (one seat, two-year term)

Noland Martin (Biology) Faculty Profile

I am a tenured Professor of Biology, and I direct our MS program in Population and Conservation Biology. I teach a variety of courses, from large undergraduate classes to graduate seminars, and lead Biology’s longest-running Education Abroad program in Costa Rica.

Less than two years ago COSE elected me Faculty Senator. My term was truncated by SB 37, a bill designed to limit the role of faculty senates.

I am running again because I believe it’s critical to advocate for our senate's purpose, even under new legislative constraints. While SB 37 makes senates "advisory only" and allows the president to appoint half the members, our role must still be to serve the faculty, and advocate during administrative decision-making processes. Senators must continue to have the courage to bring faculty concerns up the chain of command, and this principle is one that all senators should uphold, whether elected or appointed.
