Stacy Hunter (Health and Human Performance) Faculty Profile

 
Dr. Stacy Cooper (formerly Hunter) completed her Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin in 2011 and worked in the non- and for-profit sectors for 6 years prior to being appointed as an Assistant Professor at Texas State University. She was initially hired as an adjunct faculty member in 2016 and transitioned to a full-time appointment in 2017. In 2023, she received tenure and is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the Cardiovascular Physiology Laboratory in the Department of Health & Human Performance. During her 9 years at Texas State, she has served at the department, college, and university levels. Dr. Cooper has been the faculty advisor for the Black Health Professions Student Organization and has served on the IRB (alternate member), department Personnel Committee, College of Education Graduate Scholarships Committee, and the College of Education Research Office Advisory Committee. Dr. Cooper teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in cardiopulmonary exercise physiology and her research focuses on the effects of yoga and slow, deep breathing on vascular function, immune cell oxidative stress, and blood pressure in healthy and clinical populations as well as the yoga performed in heated conditions as a means of addressing the cardiovascular consequences of high-sodium intake in healthy adults. Dr. Cooper has received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NCCIH) and she is also a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.
