Accuplacer

  • Accuplacer exams are untimed, but adaptive, college readiness assessments in reading, writing, and math for students enrolled at some colleges and universities in states other than Texas. Additionally, Texas State University students who wish to place into higher-level math courses beyond college algebra, as of January 11, 2021, may take the Accuplacer Next Generation Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) assessment.

    As of January 11, 2021, only the TSIA2 will satisfy the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements for students attending higher education institutions in Texas. If you are a student needing to satisfy your TSI requirements, please refer to our page on TSIA2.

    The Accuplacer Next Generation Advanced Algebra and Functions assessment (AAF) cut scores for placement accepted by the Texas State University math department are:

    263-275 merits placement into

    • MATH 1317 (Plane Trigonometry),
    • MATH 1329 (Mathematics for Business and Economics II),
    • MATH 2321 (Calculus for Life Sciences I), or
    • MATH 2417 (Pre-Calculus Mathematics)

    276 or above merits placement into:

    • MATH2471 (Calculus I)
  • For TXST Students Taking the Accuplacer AAF Advanced Math Placement Assessment

    The in-person administration fee is $25 for TXST students taking the AAF exam. If you complete the assessment in two business days, then no additional fee will be incurred. Otherwise, an additional $25 administration fee will be required to complete the exam.

    For Students Enrolled at Schools Outside Texas Taking an Accuplacer Assessment(s)

    The in-person proctoring fee to administer an Accuplacer exam with a voucher from another school outside Texas is a $30 flat fee. If you complete the assessment in two business days, then no additional fee will be incurred. Otherwise, an additional $30 administration fee will be required to complete the exam.

    Note: TEMC cannot provide refunds for any fees or payments beyond five business days from the date of payment. Your payment receipt is valid for 90 days from the date of purchase. It is essential to submit an appointment request within this timeframe to be eligible for testing.

  • Accuplacer assessments taken in-person at a TXST campus are by appointment-only. All Accuplacer assessments are untimed and adaptive. If you are taking the writing essay, you must complete this assessment in a single sitting and cannot suspend the exam. When selecting a start time, please estimate 1.5 to 2 hours or longer is needed for each subject. All exams must be suspended or completed by 15 minutes before the testing center closes. You may return to complete any suspended exam within two business days and no additional fee will be required.

     

    If you are a TXST student wanting to test online at home or in-person at a site other than a TXST campus, you will schedule your appointment with the online vendor or the non-TXST testing site once you receive your remote testing voucher from the TEMC. See Registration Instructions: Remote Testing.

  • These instructions are for students who will attend a school outside of Texas or TXST students who wish to take the Accuplacer Advanced Math Placement assessment in-person at one of the TXST campuses.

    Note: Non-TXST students applying to /attending schools outside Texas, must obtain a remote voucher from the school at which you will enroll. Texas State University is listed as a remote testing site within the Accuplacer system, so a representative of your school can create a voucher for you to take your assessment here. You will pay your school a fee to create the voucher. You will then need to follow the instructions below to set a testing appointment at one of the TXST campuses and pay the flat rate $30 administration fee.

    Note: If you will be requesting testing accommodations, please go to the Testing with Accommodations (not ATSD or ODS Testing) section.

    Step 1: Provide payment

    Pay your testing fees online.

    For Non-TXST students, select the $30 Non-TXST Students option. For TXST students taking the Accuplacer Math Placement exam, select the $25 Math option.

    You will be sent a receipt to the email you provide. Please bring your receipt to your appointment.

    Note: Refunds are available only up to 5 business days from date of payment.

    Step 2: Determine your test date/time

    Decide when to take the test. See Testing Times above. Make an appointment here.

    You will receive a confirmation email for your appointment. The email will also include information about completing your Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA), which is only required by TSXT students to complete prior to testing.

    Step 3 (Test day)

    Bring the following documents to your confirmed appointment:

    • Valid photo ID (see ID Requirements)
    • Accuplacer Voucher from the school you are enrolled- for Non-TXST students. We cannot start your exam without this voucher.
    • PAA confirmation – for TXST students only
    • Testing administration fee receipt
    • Light jacket without a hoody
    • Snacks/Water for any allowed breaks
  • These instructions are for students who plan to attend TXST University but wish to take the Accuplacer Advanced Math Placement (AAF) exam online at home or in-person at a site other than a TXST campus.

    You will need to obtain a remote voucher from our department (TEMC). The fee to create a remote voucher for an Accuplacer Advanced Math Placement (AAF) assessment is $30.

    Please fill out our Request for Remote Accuplacer/TSI form.You will be sent additional instructions and fee payment instructions to the email you provide. Allow at least one week to process your request.

    When you receive your remote voucher from us, you will make an appointment with the online testing vender or the remote site and pay their administration fee which is separate from the remote voucher fee you pay to TEMC.

    Prohibited Item List for Online Testing at Home

    During online testing at home, specific items are prohibited to have in the room with you. Your online testing vendor will provide you with only a basic list of prohibited items. Per TEMC policy, please be aware that prohibited items during an online proctoring session include but are not limited to the following:

    • Cameras, cell phones, optical readers, or other electronic devices that include the ability to photograph, photocopy, or otherwise copy test materials
    • Notes, books, dictionaries or language dictionaries
    • Book bags, purses, handbags, or luggage
    • iPods, MP3 players, tablets, headphones, or pagers
    • Calculators, computers (other than the one you are testing on), PDAs, or other electronic devices with computer memory
    • Google and/or smart glasses (any glasses with electronics)
    • Watches, smart devices, and other jewelry except wedding or engagement rings
    • Medicine, including cough drops (except as expressly permitted in advance)
    • Food or beverage
    • Hats, hoods, or other head coverings unless required for religious purposes.

    A prohibited item violation will result in your test scores being invalidated. Payment will not be refunded, and you will need to provide payment again to retest. For more information about TEMC policy, please visit our policies page.

  • A valid photo ID is required at the time of registration. (see ID Requirements)

  • All Accuplacer assessments are untimed, adaptive, allow breaks and calculators, as applicable. Any student may use these built-in test options without providing accommodation verification or documentation.

    Students with disabilities who wish to use testing accommodations other than the built-in test options, such as alternative format, reader service, non-adaptive exam, etc., must provide verification of testing accommodations prior to making your appointment.

    At least two weeks prior to the date you wish to test, you must:

    1. Complete the Accommodated Testing Request form for the site you will test.
    2. Have your Accommodation letter or 504 report sent directly to the TEMC from your school. Do not send medical documentation to TEMC; send only the letter or report that designates your testing accommodations.
      • For testing with an accommodation at the San Marcos campus, please have your letter/report sent to proctor@txstate.edu.
      • For testing with an accommodation at the Round Rock campus, please have your letter/report sent to rrc-testing@txstate.edu.

    You will be sent an appointment confirmation and additional instructions to the email you provide. When selecting your appointment date(s) and start times, please take into consideration any additional time that you are allowed or may need for travel, parking, testing, or breaks. If you are taking all sections of the Accuplacer, you may wish to test over two or more days. If you are taking the Accuplacer writing essay, you must complete the assessment in a single sitting, breaks are allowed, but the exam cannot be suspended. All exams must be completed or suspended at least 15 minutes prior to closing of the testing center. See Testing Times.

  • For Accuplacer scores from Texas State to be sent to another school

    If you need scores for Accuplacer to be sent to an out of state college or university, we can send your scores for a fee if you submit our Score Report Request Form.

    To process your request form, when you send it to us, you must also include a clear copy of a valid photo ID. Government-issued IDs that also include a signature are preferred, but we will also accept an active Texas State student ID. The form and a photocopy of your ID can be mailed, or you can scan them and email or fax.

    Allow three business days for processing your request.
