In the summer of 2006, Becky Prince, Vice President for University Advancement (UA), asked a group of retirees to meet with her to explore ways to enhance the relationship between retirees and the university.  This ad hoc group of 12 retirees unanimously agreed that an organization for retired faculty and staff, housed within the University Advancement Division would be mutually beneficial to retirees and the University.

This group continued to meet and during the 2007-2008 year consisted of 18 retired faculty, retired staff, and University Advancement personnel.  Then referred to as the Retired Faculty & Staff Association (RFSA) Organizing committee and chaired by Drs. Everette Swinney and Marianne Reese, the group established six goals for the new organization.

  • represent retired faculty and staff regarding university benefits and other issues directly relevant to retirees;
  • serve as a conduit for communication between the university and retired faculty and staff;
  • maintain and enhance the ongoing relationship between faculty and staff throughout their retirement years;
  • promote the participation of retired faculty and staff in university activities;
  • develop and organize activities and events of special interest to retirees, and
  • identify and support scholarships, lectures, and other special events of the university.

In 2008-2009 after adopting a constitution and electing officers, the task of creating an association for Texas State University retirees who wanted to stay connected and make a difference had been accomplished.
