Engineering Firm KBR Donates to Mathworks Junior Summer Math Camp
San Marcos, TX - November 2, 2010
KBR, Inc. has donated $10,000 in support of the Mathworks Junior Summer Math Camp (JSMC) at Texas State University-San Marcos. The funding provides crucial support for student supplies, teachers, and undergraduate mentors. In its 15th summer of operation, the JSMC is a multi-tiered program for 4th-8th grade students. Over 230 young students attend the JSMC each summer, and those who show financial need are awarded scholarships to attend the program cost-free. The JSMC is designed to prepare students for algebra and higher-level mathematics using hands-on activities and explorations.
"We are delighted to have support from KBR for our Junior Summer Math Camp. The teachers and undergraduate mentors who work in our summer program are simply amazing. The camp helps students lay a solid foundation in mathematics throughout their middle school years, inspiring and engaging them to do high-level mathematics. The JSMC has established itself as a program of mathematical excellence, and we are happy that KBR is providing the support needed to make our camp available to students of all economic backgrounds," said Dr. Max Warshauer, Director of Mathworks.
