Herb Carter Scholarships Offered To Students To Attend Mathworks Math Camps

San Marcos, TX - September 1st, 2011

Texas Mathworks at Texas State University has announced the establishment of the "Herb Carter Scholarships" to support students to attend the Mathworks Honors Summer Math Camp (HSMC) and residential Junior Summer Math Camp (JSMC) programs.  Funding will support promising African-American students to attend the two summer math programs, providing economically disadvantaged students opportunities to do high-level mathematics.  Two students will be chosen each year for the next three years, one for the HSMC and one for the residential JSMC.

"We are extremely honored to have the support of Herb and thank him for his generosity.  As a long-time advisory board member, Herb has provided invaluable guidance for Mathworks programs.  The Herb Carter Scholarships will give bright young students from around the nation mathematical opportunities that they would not otherwise have.  The experiences the students have in our summer math programs prepare them to make significant contributions in the math and science fields in the future, " said Dr. Max Warshauer, Director of Mathworks and professor of Mathematics.
