Top 5 Questions

  • Student safety, wellbeing and success are top priorities. If you have a student who is struggling, please utilize the following resources:

    • In case of medical or mental health life threatening emergency, call 911.
    • University Seminar Office: Faculty can always contact our office with general concerns about students at us1100program@txstate.edu
    • Dean of Students: As a member of the Bobcat community, if you observe any concerning behavior, you may report the behavior using the online report form or contact the Dean of Students at 512.245.2124.
    • Counseling Center: The Counseling Center is a wonderful resource for our students and provides free individual and group counseling, wellness programs, and a partnership with TimelyCare, a service that offers free, on demand virtual mental health services directly to our students via use of the TimelyCare app. Counseling staff can consult with faculty who have concerns about a student.  Please call at 512-245-2208.  You will be connected to the on-call clinician or a message will be taken and you will receive a return call.
    • First-Year Advising: First-Year Advising has developed a faculty and staff referral form to identify and support students who may be facing academic challenges during the first year of their college experience.
  • You can find an updated list of important dates and deadlines in the Faculty Resource Canvas. https://canvas.txstate.edu/courses/1721382/files/folder/Important%20Dates

  • Data consistently show a correlation between lack of success in University Seminar and lack of academic success overall. In order to flag students who may need assistance as early as possible, US 1100 faculty are required to submit an early grade (“Initial Academic Feedback”) during the two weeks after 12th class day. Grades will be submitted on Self-Service Banner or through CANVAS Gradebook and the University Seminar office will let you know when and how to submit the grades. Please plan your syllabus to include some meaningful grades early in the semester—prior to the deadline to submit IAF grades.

  • Please contact our office as soon as possible at us1100program@txstate.edu so that we can ensure paperwork is processed properly.

  • We do not have a required textbook for University Seminar. Faculty are welcome to use the College Success textbook as a resource. More information about this open educational resource can be found in the Faculty Resource Canvas
