BMB Percussion Prescreen Form

Please carefully review the required prescreening requirements, fill out the online form, and upload an 'unlisted' YouTube video(s) by August 1st.

  • Video(s) must show your full body
  • Video(s) must have a unobstructed view of your hands
  • If auditioning for battery percussion, mark time during the excerpts and ensure the video captures your feet moving
  • Perform all excerpts with an audible metronome at the indicated tempos.
  • AUDITION MATERIAL CAN BE FOUND IN THE BMB DRUMLINE PACKET HERE

BATTERY PERCUSSION

  • Snares:
    • Sweet n' Low (at quarter = 112) 
    • B-Cat (at quarter = 120)
    • Play with a metronome, while marking time. This can be played on a drum or drum pad.
  • Tenors: 
    • Sweet n' Low (at quarter = 112) 
    • B-Cat (at quarter = 120)
    • Play with a metronome, while marking time. This can be played on a set of drums or a tenor pad.
  • Bass Drums: 
    • Sweet n' Low (at quarter = 112) with a metronome, while marking time. 
    • B-Cat (at quarter = 120)
    • Play the drum #2 part, then play the drum part for which you think you may want to audition.
    • Play this AFTER playing the drum #2 part.
  • Cymbals: 
    • Sweet n' Low (at quarter = 112) with a metronome, while marking time. 
    • B-Cat (at quarter = 120)
    • This can be played with cymbals OR clapping hands. Ensure the video shows your hands and your feet.

FRONT ENSEMBLE

  • Keyboards: Ensure camera angle clearly shows your hands.
    • Bailey's (at quarter note = 85-100), holding only 2 mallets in hand, with metronome 
    • Speed (at quarter note = 90-100), holding only 2 mallets in hand 
    • A 4-mallet solo of your selection
  • Drum Set: (could be played with a loop) Play a short excerpt in the following styles: Rock, jazz, latin (bossa nova, songo, mambo)
  • Synthesizer: submit a short piano excerpt that will showcase your skills.
(ex. SD in Johnson HS 2016-2018, front ensemble for Carolina Crown 2021, BD in BMB 2022, etc.)

Instrument Preference

Please indicate what would be your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice instrument placement in the Bobcat Marching Band. (Please note that this does not guarantee membership in the ensemble, or placement on your preferred instrument.)

Video Uploads

All candidates MUST submit at least ONE (1) and as many as THREE (3) videos for consideration. Please ensure you follow the directions (tempo, that the video clearly displays your hands/feet, etc.) and upload them as YouTube links below by AUGUST 1st.
