Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS)

  • The ATI TEAS exam is for prospective nursing students to demonstrate essential skills in reading, mathematics, science, and language usage.

All prospective nursing students, regardless of the college or university they plan to attend, are welcome to test at the Texas State Testing Center, either at our Round Rock or San Marcos location. Students also have the option to take the test through Texas State and Proctorio provided by the San Marcos location.

The ATI TEAS has a 209 minute time limit (about 3½ hours) and requires an appointment. The appointment times for this exam can be found at the bottom of this page.

  • Testing at San Marcos or Round Rock:

Taking the ATI TEAS will involve payment of two fees combined into one online payment. The payment will include the ATI TEAS test fee, currently $65, and the testing center's $60 administration fee, for a total of $125. Both fees are subject to change.

Note: TEMC cannot provide refunds for any fees or payments beyond five business days from the date of payment. Your payment receipt is valid for 90 days from the date of purchase. It is essential to submit an appointment request within this timeframe to be eligible for testing.

After you request an appointment, you will receive an email response within 2 business days. If the date and/or time you request is not available, you will be offered an opportunity to select a different appointment. Otherwise you will get an email confirming your appointment, which will also include a link to an online payment page where you can pay the $125 fee. Your appointment is not set until you receive the confirmation.

    Testing Remotely through Proctorio:

Taking the ATI TEAS will involve payment of two separate fees. The first payment is the testing center's $60 administration fee. The second payment is the ATI TEAS test fee, currently $65, plus a $5 Proctorio fee. Total cost is $130. Both fees are subject to change.

Note: TEMC cannot provide refunds for any fees or payments beyond five business days from the date of payment. Your payment receipt is valid for 90 days from the date of purchase. It is essential to submit an appointment request within this timeframe to be eligible for testing.

After you request an appointment, you will receive an email response within 3 business days with the next steps to complete your registration process. Payment of the administration fee and completion of ATI registration requirements must be completed at least 2 days prior to your requested appointment. A confirmation will be sent once the registration steps are completed. If the date and/or time you request is not available or the registration steps have not been completed prior to your test date, you will be offered an opportunity to select a different appointment. Payment of the test fee will be made directly to ATI on your exam day.

  • Note: You may have only one appointment at a time, and you may make an appointment up to one month in advance.

A second appointment may only be made after emailing your test site to cancel an appointment, or after the first appointment date has passed. Appointments must be cancelled at least 24 business hours in advance, or the student will be considered a “no show”. If you are a “no-show” for two appointments, you will forfeit ATI TEAS testing privileges at the TEMC.

Request an appointment for ATI TEAS by submitting our online form.

Note regarding Round Rock Facility: Testing for ATI TEAS is suspended during weeks that mid-terms and finals are conducted.

  • To cancel or change an appointment, reply to the confirmation email with your request a minimum of 24 “business hours” in advance (for example, if no holidays are involved, a Monday appointment must be canceled by the same time on the previous Friday).

  • If you are taking the ATI TEAS for admission to the Texas State School of Nursing, visit TEAS: Pre-Nursing Assessment to see their web page about the test. Note, if you are requesting a retake of the ATI TEAS within the same admission cycle for TXST School of Nursing, you must wait 30 days between attempts.

To contact ATI for additional ATI TEAS information, you can email them at comments@atitesting.com or call 800.667.7531.

  • Students with disabilities who may require accommodations (alternative format, reader service, extended time, etc.) must contact the Office of Disability Services (512.245.3451) prior to taking the test. Verification of disability will be required. Non-Texas State students who require accommodations must request that the office analogous to ODS at their school provide to us a list of approved testing accommodations to proctor@txstate.edu if you intend to test at the San Marcos campus or rrc-testing@txstate.edu if you intend to test at the Round Rock campus.

Additionally, all examinees who require accommodations must complete an Accommodated Testing Request Form to test at either facility at least two weeks prior to the desired exam date. If you intend to test at the San Marcos campus, please complete the SM Accommodated Testing Request Form. If you intend to test at the Round Rock campus, please complete the TCRR Accommodated Testing Request Form. Requests will be processed within two business days. Please note the operating hours for each campus testing center and available start times for the exam you wish to take when selecting your appointment time, and make sure to take into account additional time you may need.

  • A valid, current photo ID issued by the state of Texas (driver’s license or state ID) or the United States (passport, military ID, permanent resident card, etc.) is required.
  • Please be aware that computer technology is still imperfect, and occasionally technical difficulties may cause delays in any part of the process, especially related to computer-based tests. Therefore, we suggest that if your test has a deadline, that you take it sufficiently early to allow for scores to be received in time if such difficulties should occur. The Testing Center strives to ensure that tests are administered, scored, and reported accurately, securely, and in as timely a manner as possible, but we cannot be responsible for your deadlines.

We strongly recommend testing early. December and January appointments fill up quickly. Punctuality is important during this busy time. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you may lose your appointment.

  • If you want to release your ATI TEAS scores to other institutions besides Texas State University's St. David's School of Nursing, you will need to log in to your personal account at atitesting.com on your own computer after you have completed the exam. University policy prohibits making credit card payments from any Texas State University computers. The fee for each additional score report is currently $27. This fee is paid directly to ATI, and is also subject to change at their prerogative.
  • Appointment times at our San Marcos campus facility are: Monday – Friday: 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at 15 minute increments.

At our Round Rock campus facility: All testing must be completed 15 minutes prior to closing. For times to test at the Testing Center, Round Rock, please visit the TCRR hours page. Please note that TEAS testing may be unavailable at the Testing Center, Round Rock during midterms and finals.
