Faculty Leadership

Dr. Shannon Duffy | Faculty Advisor

Dr. Shannon Duffy

Shannon E. Duffy received her BA from Emory University, her MA from the University of New Orleans, and her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Early American History at Texas State University and writes on issues of personal and community identity formation in the Revolutionary and Early National period. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on Colonial, Revolutionary and Early National American history, as well as Early American constitutional and legal history. Her upcoming manuscript, Defiantly Neutral: The Deep Roots of Quaker Pacifism in Pennsylvania, investigates the experiences of Quakers in eighteenth-century Pennsylvania.

Student Leadership

Amy Bushong | President

President’s Duties:
Lead all officer/board meetings. Appoints committee chairs. Delegates and assigns duties to officers. Creates the chapter calendar each semester. Ensures that all events are properly staffed. Serve as the liaison between the faculty advisor (and other faculty) and the organization. Acts as the final reviewer of all new member applications. Attend all events by Phi Alpha Theta unless unable to. Helps reach out to presenters for events. Sends application acceptance letters.  Help propose the new officers.

Jamie Sackett | Vice President

Vice-President’s Duties:
Presides at meetings and ceremonies in the absence of the president; succeeds the president in the event of their departure, graduation, or absence from campus. Expected to participate in planning and implementing the activities of the chapter, including officers’ meetings. Aids the President in general outreach, such as to presenters.

Luiz Francisco Osorio | Secretary

Secretary’s Duties:
Takes notes at all officers’ meetings; keeps records of PAT current member and alumni with updated emails and mailing lists; keeps records of event ideas proposed at social events.

Gabriel Odom | Treasurer

Treasurer’s Duties:
Creates the yearly budget with the faculty advisor and the president; determines honorarium for PAT Conference speakers, allocates money for social and academic events. Broadly deals with financial issues.

Andrew Ward | Historian

Historian Duties:
Works with Archivist to maintain a consistent record of PAT events and the process by which they were established and executed. Establish and maintain the chapters history. Creates and maintains records of officer positions, events, concepts, and materials for meetings, etc. They keep track of attendance at meetings as well. At the end of the semester, they create a complete record of the organization. They will work with the Social Media Coordinator and Archivist to publicize the organization’s activities and history for that semester, such as creating a portfolio of meetings, sending pictures to the history department’s media, etc.

Issac X. Nelson | Archivist

Archivist Duties: 
Maintains Canvas or Teams page for PAT; maintains PAT mailing lists. Finds records of previous PAT conferences and events to archive (history department has a news archive). Keeps current membership and alumni contact information updated. 

Hannah Martin | Social Media Coordinator

Social Media Coordinator Duties:
Sets up and maintains social media for officers and PAT events; help publicize PAT events. Collects suggestions for keynote and alumni speakers at PAT conference. Keeps updated list of social media sites and login information. They will work with the Historian and Archivist to publicize the organization’s activities and history for that semester, such as creating a portfolio of meetings, sending pictures to the history department’s media, etc.

Rachel Lopez | Banquet Chair

Banquet Chair Duties: 
Publicizes conference and banquet information through email and social media; works with ITAC Engagement to set up portal for conference abstracts and papers; choses vendors for food for both events; communicates with speakers; helps with setup and cleanup of in-person events.
