Military History

I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduating high school, I joined the United States Air Force and served initially at Spangdahlem AB, (then) West Germany. I spent most of my free time exploring historic sights, primarily those relating to World War 2. After my honorable discharge in 1989 I immediately enrolled at (then) Southwest Texas State University, and received my B.A. (Magna Cum Laude – English Major, Philosophy Minor) in 1994.

I began to work part-time in sports broadcasting while in the Air Force. After graduation, this led to a full-time career in which I eventually worked with literally every sports network on every sport, highlighted by my 15 years travelling with MLB and NBA teams as the lead producer of game telecasts. In my career, I’ve worked over 3,500 events at 95 different universities and almost every professional arena and stadium. I spent countless hours on airplanes and in hotels and once the travel became too much, I retired and decided to enroll in grad school at my alma mater.

In 2023 I accepted an offer as a Lecturer to teach in the History Department. After a successful sports broadcasting career, I have found that my present role of teaching and guiding young college students to be my most fulfilling professional role.

I also am a volunteer for the United Way of Comal County, the Bulverde Senior Activity Center in the Meals on Wheels Program, and along with my wife Terry was a co-founder of Blossom Fields, a non-profit organization inspired by our late daughter Olivia and dedicated to providing opportunities to autistic and mentally retarded young adults. I am immensely proud of my three sons and daughters-in-law, two grandsons and three granddaughters.
