Richard Blackett holds the Andrew Jackson Chair of History at Vanderbilt University. His research focuses on the place of African Americans in the Atlantic world, particularly their efforts to end slavery and racial discrimination. He is the author, most recently, of Divided Hearts: Britain and the American Civil War (2001).
