The Ingram Professorship, which provides release time and monetary support for a senior faculty member to pursue his or her research agenda, was established by Callie Ingram and family to recognize a faculty member’s scholarly contribution to the discipline of history and to further the study of history at Texas State. Dr. Brown has used the resources provided by the professorship to complete, research and publish a contemporary institutional history of Texas State University.

Dr. Brown succeeded previous Ingram Professors Joseph Yick, Elizabeth Makowski, and Jimmy McWilliams. Angie Murphy will be the 2022-2025 Ingram Professor.


Ron BrownDr. Ronald C. Brown is the preeminent expert on the history of Texas State University.

He came to Texas State in 1975 and served briefly as institutional archivist (1978-81), director of the Honors Program (1980-1995) and 22 years in administration (1995-2017). He is a founding member, past president and former treasurer of the Mining History Association. He is a member of several professional organizations in history. He coordinated a three-year program in oral history with NASA, a two-year program in Texas Music History and regularly conducts and consults on oral history.
