Understanding where crime happens is a key part of preventing it.
At GII, we cut through the noise using maps and spatial data to reveal patterns in criminal activity, such as where crimes cluster, how they shift over time, and what environmental factors may be linked to them.
At the TXST Center for Geospatial Intelligence and Investigation (GII), we use location-based data and spatial analysis to better understand and solve crime, improve public safety, and support agencies. Our research focuses on the intersection of geography, technology, and investigative practice. We explore how patterns of movement, crime, and environmental features can provide clues into criminal behavior. Our research is applied and collaborative, built to solve problems using geospatial tools and evidence-based strategies.

Crime Mapping
INVESTIGATIONS
Investigative failures often result from cognitive biases, misunderstandings of probabilities, and organizational issues like groupthink. Analyzing past failures helps develop methods and training to prevent similar issues in the future.

Geographic Profiling
Our research uses geospatial and other forms of tactical information to develop information management models.
COLD CASES
We offer courses in cold case investigations and support research to help agencies address unsolved crimes. This includes data collection and analysis, identifying connections and investigative stall points, and assessing factors affecting case clearance. We also collaborate with law enforcement and criminal justice agencies to strengthen investigative efforts.
