B.G.S Major in Integrated Studies
Program Overview
The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) with a Major in Integrated Studies is a dynamic, interdisciplinary degree designed for students with diverse academic interests and individualized career goals. Housed within the College of Education, the program empowers students to take an active role in shaping their education by integrating coursework across three distinct academic areas, including a required minor. With a focus on adaptability, critical thinking, and self-directed learning, students are prepared to enter a wide range of professional fields or pursue graduate education.
Key tenets of the program include academic flexibility, intentional degree planning, and the development of a broad, transferable skillset sought after by today’s employers.
Course Work
The Integrated Studies curriculum allows students to design a customized course of study centered around a required minor and two additional academic areas. In addition to fulfilling the university’s general education core, students complete two dedicated General Studies courses—INTS 3360 and a senior capstone sequence (INTS 4360 and INTS 4361)—which emphasize goal-setting, career exploration, and professional portfolio development.
Students have the option to incorporate elective coursework, internships, or transfer credits to enhance their academic pathway. The program culminates in a comprehensive digital career portfolio, designed to showcase each student’s unique combination of knowledge, experience, and career readiness.
