What is International Education Week?
International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education that celebrates the benefits of international education and cultural exchange worldwide. Each year, colleges, universities, schools, and organizations across the United States participate in International Education Week by highlighting the impact that global learning, study abroad, international students, international scholars, language learning, and cross-cultural engagement have on our campuses and communities.
At Texas State University, International Education Week provides an opportunity to recognize the value of global perspectives, celebrate our international community, and encourage meaningful connections across cultures. Through a variety of educational, cultural, and interactive events, we invite our campus community to explore the many ways international education enriches academic excellence, career readiness, innovation, and global citizenship.
We encourage all Texas State University students, faculty, and staff to participate in International Education Week events and celebrate the importance of international education November 16–20, 2026. Whether you are interested in studying abroad, learning about different cultures, connecting with international students, or simply broadening your global perspective, there is something for everyone to enjoy throughout the week.

Students submit photos through the ISSS website showcasing their experiences at Texas State and memories from home. The competition winner will be announced on November 20.
Education Abroad Travel and Earn Credit: Faculty-led Programs Workshop

International Flag Parade

A signature International Education Week event celebrating TXST's global community. Students proudly represent their home countries by carrying national flags in a parade across campus, concluding with a community celebration.
Traveling with Alejandro: Where Tourists Rarely Go

On this talk through the Department of World Languages and Literatures, Alejandro Garza will share some of his photographic journey of some of the most remote places of the Hispanic world. Drawing from his travels in Spanish-speaking countries, he shares stories, cultural insights, and photographs from communities far and beyond the typical tourist traps. This presentation explores the remoteness, exoticness, and traditions of the Hispanic world through the lens of a traveler, educator, and photographer. Short bio: Alejandro Garza is originally from Mexico and now living in the United States. Alejandro developed a passion for travel at an early age. A study abroad experience in Spain as a college student inspired his lifelong interest in cultural exploration. As a college professor, he has led college and high school students on international educational trips. Combining his passions for travel and photography, he spent a year and a half documenting cultural traditions across every Spanish-speaking country (except Venezuela). He has visited 149 countries and continues pursuing his goal of exploring every country in the world. Education Abroad will also be there to answer questions about how to travel to the places Alejandro discusses!
Graduate College: International Education: External Funding for Graduate Students

In partnership between Career Services and International Student and Scholar Services, a career fair connecting students and alumni with employers seeking globally minded talent. Attendees can explore internships and careers in the U.S. and abroad while networking with recruiters and learning about international career pathways.
J-1 Scholar Research Spotlight
