What We Do

“We recruit, screen, deploy, and monitor work-study mentor program (WSMP) students at the College Go-Center at San Marcos High,” explained Dr. Rosina Valle, WSMP specialist. “In addition, we assist in training the college mentors and other school-personnel on the mission of the WSMP program and the services that work-study mentors can provide.” “Continuing to address gaps in educational opportunity and achievement among diverse learners remain WSMP’s goal. Engagement and collaboration are necessary to succeed in college and career,” Valle said.

Peer Mentors work at San Marcos High School and provide direct mentorship and assistance to high school students for up to 20 hours per week. Mentors assist students in/with researching careers/majors, test registration, college and financial aid applications, resume/essay creation and critique, and participation in required training throughout the semester as needed.
