Latino Americans Gallery ImageDuring Hispanic Heritage Month, PBS debuted a six-part documentary on the history of Latinos in the United States from the 16th century through the present. The Center for the Study of the Southwest and the Wittliff Collections at Texas State hosted the pre-screening of a 40-minute excerpt from the series made available by Austin's PBS affiliate, KLRU. A panel discussion regarding themes and issues raised by the documentary followed the screening. Panelists included one of the series producers, award-winning documentarian John Valadez; director of the Center for the Study of the Southwest Frank de la Teja; political science professor Emily Hanks; and history professor John Mckiernan-González.
