Maria Haiyasoso

Welcome to the Department of Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education, and School Psychology (CLAS)! At the heart of CLAS, you will find a vibrant and student-centered community. Students in CLAS come from diverse backgrounds, enriching our programs through meaningful contributions in the classroom and impactful service to our communities. On the path to becoming professional counselors, school psychologists, educational leaders, student affairs professionals, adult educators, or interdisciplinary graduates, students earn a quality education, train in specialty areas, and receive support in CLAS.

Our faculty hold expertise in their respective professional fields, engage in innovative research and impactful scholarship, and commit to advancing students’ development. Faculty prepare students to lead and to advocate for growth-fostering change in schools and organizations within their local communities and beyond. Alongside our dedicated and skilled staff, our department proudly serves within a public, Hispanic-Serving Institution. Our transformational work aligns with the mission of Texas State University: to prize discovery and creativity and to pursue community engagement in a manner that bridges research with practice.

As Interim Department Chair, I reflect on my own experience as a first-generation college student and recognize the value in accessible educational opportunities. Together, our programs offer opportunities for students to personally and professionally thrive. We invite you to learn more about our undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs and to connect with our community here at Texas State!

Sincerely,
Maria Haiyasoso, PhD, LPC-S, RPT™, NCC
