Title V Career and Financial Education (CAFE)

Career and Financial Education (CAFE): A Graduation Success and Career Readiness Initiative at Texas State University was a five-year award from 2015-2021 from the U.S. Department of Education Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program.

Activity 1

Graduation Success Centers at Texas State University and Del Mar College

Activity 1 projects were designed to enhance student completion of certificate- and degree-programs in a timely manner through personalized Academic Coaching. This program targeted students identified according to information provided at admission, which estimated their likelihood of academic success.  Academic Coaches assisted students with the developing skills necessary for timely degree completion and workforce preparedness. Further, Academic Coaches assisted students in post-graduation preparation including developing plans for financial transition from Texas State University to the workforce. 

Activity 2

Career Readiness Institutes at Texas State University and Del Mar College

Activity 2 was designed to create Career Readiness Institutes to support student development of "soft skills" as they prepare to enter the workforce.  The Institute awarded students with Career Readiness Certification upon completion of curriculum and workshop series on-campus. As a result, hundreds of students have developed career skills essential to success in today's competitive workforce.
