- Circular dichroism (CD) is a technique that analyzes the difference in how chiral molecules absorb left vs right-circularly polarized light. Most often used in the macromolecular world, CD is used to determine protein secondary structure, conformational changes, and stability. Similar work can be done to study nucleic acids.

- The ITC is an instrument used to determine the Kd, Ka, the stoichiometry, and the enthalpy of interaction between binding partners. A ligand is titrated into a solution containing its binding partner housed in the sample cell. As the interaction between binding partners occurs, a temperature change is often seen. The signal obtained by the ITC is the energy added or removed to the sample cell in order for it to maintain the same temperature as the reference cell.

- The GC is an instrument used to separate components within a mixture in their gas state. Traditionally, these mixtures will be non-polar as the analyte must be volatile but stable at the temperatures used to run the GC. The data obtained can be used to determine the purity of the sample, and, if using the MS, can potentially be used to identify the compounds in the mixture.

- The Cary Eclipse system is a spectrofluorometer with the capability of studying not only fluorescence, but also bio/chemiluminescence and phosphorescence. In studying these, a spectrofluorometer detects the light coming from (emitted) from the sample. Applications include obtaining emission spectra and kinetics curves when tracking the emission of light.
