Honors Capstone

The Benefits of Completing a Capstone

The honors capstone project presents both a great challenge and a great opportunity. The preparation for a project, including both research and writing, can help focus your interests, provide perspective on your major, develop scholarly skills, and encourage creativity and independent effort.

Completing a capstone can also prove a benefit when applying to graduate or professional school, or applying to a job after graduation.

The Capstone Process

Students must fulfill the following steps to begin a project

  1. Find a topic that you are passionate about, and would like to pursue.
  2. Find a supervisor and/or second reader. Meet with your advisor and have him or her sign the capstone application.
  3. Schedule a meeting with the Dean of the Honors College, Dr. Heather Galloway  or Research Director Dr. Ron Haas to get approval for your proposed topic. Be sure to bring the signed application forms to this meeting. Please  e-mail honors@txstate.edu to request an appointment.
  4. Enroll in the Capstone course.
