You will assist by helping solve problems, offering support suggesting strategies, and making referrals when appropriate. This position is great for students who want to deepen their personal content knowledge and help fellow students succeed.

     Job Requirements

    • Earned a minimum of “B” in course(s) you are applying to tutor
    • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA
    • Completed at least 24 hours of college coursework
    • Comfortable managing groups of students
    • Strong organization and communication skills

     Job Duties

    • Attend all pre-semester and monthly SLAC trainings
    • Maintain academic honesty and integrity
    • Tutor groups of students
    • Refer students to appropriate resources if necessary

    SI Leaders are tutors who attend course lectures, work with faculty, and facilitate 3-5 structured study sessions (50 mins) each week. This position is great for students looking to strengthen their course content knowledge, tutoring or classroom management experience, network opportunities with faculty, or leadership experience. This position is not Work-Study eligible.

     Job Requirements

    • Earned an ‘A’ or tested out of the course(s) applying for
    • 3.0 TXST cumulative GPA minimum
    • Comfortable with public speaking
    • Strong organization and time management skills

     Job Duties

    • Attend 3 hours of lecture each week

  • Job Description

    SLAC Lab Assistants serve as the eyes and ears of the SLAC Lab. As a Lab Assistant, you will greet and guide clients to the appropriate areas of the Lab as well as serve as a liaison between the clients and the tutors. Lab Assistants are responsible for managing the flow of the SLAC Lab and maintaining a good learning environment. This position is ideal for students who are personable and enjoy a lively, fast-paced environment.

    • Familiarity with SLAC and other academic resources
    • Maintain a professional, positive attitude

     Job Duties

    • Open and close the SLAC Lab
    • Greet and direct SLAC clients to appropriate tutoring tables
    • Maintain an effective learning environment in the SLAC Lab
    • Refer SLAC clients to appropriate resources if necessary
    • Answer phone calls and restock Lab materials

    As a Mil-Con Guide, you will be responsible for helping serve the military-connected community through tailored programs and initiatives. This position is great for Mil-Con students who want to build their leadership skills and serve fellow Mil-Con students in their transition to campus and in their personal and academic success.

     Job Requirements

    • Minimum overall GPA of 2.6
    • Be a Military-Connected Student on a Federal educational benefit (Veteran, ROTC cadet, Spouse or Family Member on a Federal benefit such as Post 9-11 GI Bill ®, Federal Tuition Assistance, or VA Vocational Rehab) 
    • TXST student for minimum of 2 semesters
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • An active and involved member of the Texas State Community

     Job Duties

    • Assist military-connected students
    • Help students become familiar with Veterans Affairs, university and community benefits and resources
    • Advise and refer students to appropriate resources as the need arises
    • Schedule face-to-face meetings as required
    • Hold office hours
    • Record contact and submit Weekly Activity Sheets
    • Attend and encourage attendance at VATS, Veteran events and University activities
    • Attend a weekly meeting with the Guide Coordinator

    SLAC Office Assistants provide administrative support to SLAC professional staff.  As an Office Assistant, you will assist in managing day-to-day operations of the SLAC office. You will greet and refer clients who are seeking information about Supplemental Instruction, Lab Tutoring, Private Tutoring, the Online Writing Lab, Veteran Academic Success Center, to the proper sources. This position is ideal for students who are reliable, personable, and can balance multiple tasks at any given time.

  •  Job Description

    As a SLAC private tutor, you will be placed on SLAC’s private tutor referral list and work individually with students. You will assist in solving problems and offering support by suggesting strategies. This position is great for those who need flexibility as private tutors set their own schedule and rate.

    *Private Tutors are NOT official SLAC employees but instead are tutors who meet the same employment standards as SLAC Lab Tutors and are referred to by SLAC for students wishing to hire a qualified private tutor.
