Graduate and Undergraduate Scholarships

The Center for International Studies offers a variety of scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students in International Studies. Eligibility requirements and application materials for each scholarship are listed below.

  • Scholarships

    • Eligibility Criteria:

      • Incoming freshmen must have a minimum ACT Composite score of 27 or an SAT score of 1150, or be in the top 10% of his/her graduating class.
      • Incoming graduate students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA on all previous undergraduate work.
      • Incoming transfer students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA.
      • Current Texas State undergraduate graduate students must have a 3.5 GPA
      • Must be a major in International Studies.
      • Undergraduate and graduate-level Piersol-Dunn Scholars must enroll for at least 15 hours and 9 hours per semester, respectively.
      • The basic criteria for awarding scholarships will be merit. Merit will be determined by GPA, letters of reference, or other appropriate measures as specified in the eligibility criteria above.
      • Piersol-Dunn Scholars are required to maintain an overall and semester-by-semester Texas State GPA of 3.25 or above if undergraduates and 3.5 if graduates. Failure to comply with this provision shall constitute grounds for the forfeiture of the scholarship.
    • Eligibility Criteria:

      • Currently enrolled as a full-time student and working on completing his or her major in International Studies. 
      • Have a Texas State GPA of 3.5 or above; if an incoming graduate student, must have minimum 3.5 GPA on all previous undergraduate work.
      • Undergraduate and graduate-level BOA Scholars must enroll for at least 15 hours and 9 hours per semester, respectively.
      • The basic criteria for awarding scholarships will be merit. Merit will be determined by GPA, letters of reference, or other appropriate measures as specified in the eligibility criteria above.
      • Board of Advisors Scholars are required to maintain an overall and semester-by-semester Texas State GPA of 3.5 or above. Failure to comply with this provision shall constitute grounds for the forfeiture of the scholarship.
    • Eligibility Criteria:

      • Applicants must be majoring in History or International Studies.
      • Incoming freshmen must have a minimum ACT Composite score of 27 or an SAT score of 1150, or be in the top 10% of his/her graduating class.
      • Current Texas State undergraduate students must have a minimum 3.2 GPA, and current graduate students must have a 3.5 GPA.
      • Dunn Scholars are required to maintain an overall and semester-by-semester Texas State GPA of 3.5. Failure to comply with this provision shall constitute grounds for the forfeiture of the scholarship.

    • The Helen Ratliff Cleaves Memorial Scholarship is a competitive scholarship offered through the Center for International Studies. This scholarship program focuses on Latin America. 

      Eligibility Criteria:

      • Open to graduate students in International Studies.
      • Fluency in English and Spanish.
      • Eligibility to be accepted as a graduate student at Texas State University.
      • Students must be enrolled for a minimum of nine hours during the semesters in which they receive the scholarship.
      • A minimum of a 3.25 GPA is required.
    • Eligibility criteria:

      • Incoming freshmen must have a minimum ACT Composite score of 27 or an SAT score of 1150, or be in the top 10% of his/her graduating class.
      • Incoming graduate students must have a minimum 3.25 GPA on all previous undergraduate work.
      • Incoming transfer students must have a minimum 3.25 GPA.
      • Current Texas State undergraduate and graduate students must have a minimum 3.25 GPA.
      • Must be a major in International Studies.
      • Undergraduate and graduate-level Johnson Scholars must enroll for at least 15 hours and 9 hours per semester, respectively.
      • The basic criteria for awarding scholarships will be merit. Merit will be determined by GPA, letters of reference, or other appropriate measures as specified in the eligibility criteria above.
      • Johnson Scholars are required to maintain an overall and semester-by-semester Texas State GPA of 3.25 or above if undergraduates and 3.5 if graduates. Failure to comply with this provision shall constitute grounds for the forfeiture of the scholarship.
    • Eligibility Requirements

      • Must have a declared major in International Studies
      • Entering freshmen must have graduated in the upper third of their high school graduating class.
      • Currently enrolled Texas State students and transfer students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
      • Preference will be given to qualified candidates in the following order of preference:
        • Native-born Texan (provide proof)
        • Texas resident (provide proof)
        • Child of a US military or former US military parent, or a student enrolled in ROTC (provide proof)
        • All other candidates
    • The Wilson International Exchange Scholarship is a competitive scholarship offered through the Center for International Studies. The program focuses on Latin America and faculty/student exchange, collaborative research and international outreach. 

      Eligibility Criteria:

      • Open to graduate students from all disciplines.
      • Students must be enrolled for a minimum of nine hours during the semesters in which they receive the scholarship.
      • A minimum of a 3.25 GPA required.
