San Marcos: “The State of Black Design,” a groundbreaking conference and career fair to increase employment of Black designers, will be held March 4 to 6 at Texas State University and online. Renowned poet Nikki Giovanni and journalist Jelani Cobb are among the conference’s dozens of speakers and presenters. During the career fair, jobseekers will interview with recruiters from firms, such as Google, IBM and Microsoft and Cisco.
The conference is in its third year and attracts leading Black designers, educators, activists, recruiters, and students nationwide. Its panels and workshops will explore design diversity, best practices, and design activism. More than 1,000 participants are expected. This year’s theme is “Family Reunion” to mark the first time the conference will allow some in person attendance.
